Contrave for Weightloss
Contrave, we call it CraveCurb, combines two established medications: naltrexone (primarily used to manage alcohol or opioid dependence) and bupropion (an antidepressant effective in treating depression, seasonal affective disorder, and assisting in smoking cessation).
In its extended-release form, naltrexone operates as an opioid blocker, while bupropion acts as an antidepressant that modulates dopamine and norepinephrine levels.
Together, their synergistic effect has demonstrated in clinical studies that 36% to 48% of participants achieved a weight loss of at least 5% when pitted against a placebo.
The FDA gave its approval for Contrave in 2014, and it is produced by Nalpropion Pharmaceuticals.
Phentermine Is a stimulant. As a stimulant, it decreases your appetite. We use it at doses ranging from 5-25 mg per day which is less than standard dosing. Possible side effects of phentermine can be jitteriness, tremors, and an increase in heart rate. At low doses, side effects are significantly lessened. Dry mouth and eyes can also occur. Most people tolerate this medication well.
Emotional eating and uncontrollable snacking can lead to huge weight gains and prevent you from reaching your weight-loss goals. If you find that you’re prone to emotional eating or unable to resist snacking, consider using low dose naltrexone for weight loss. In conjunction with support from one of our amazing group program, low dose naltrexone will help keep you on track as you reach your target weight.
*I also recommend this to those that struggle with autoimmune disease because of it's anti-inflammatory characteristics.
We have found that taking the medication and making dosage adjustments as needed for longer amounts of time (ie 6-12 months or more), better eating habits form and optimal weight loss has been able to become attainable.
At the core of every successful health journey lies a deeply personal experience. Just as no two individuals are identical, no two bodies react the same way to medications. This is where compounding pharmacies play a transformative role.
Compounding pharmacies are not your typical drugstores. They go beyond the 'one-size-fits-all' approach, providing a tailored health experience for each individual. Here's how they revolutionize your medication journey:
Custom Formulations: Compounding pharmacies craft medications from scratch, allowing for specific ingredients to be included or excluded based on individual needs and sensitivities. Whether it's a particular filler you're allergic to or a certain dye that doesn't sit well, your medication can be adjusted accordingly.
Optimal Dosages: Everyone's body processes medications differently. Through compounding, you can receive the precise dosage that aligns best with your body and health requirements, ensuring efficacy and reducing potential side effects.
Alternative Delivery Methods: Not a fan of swallowing pills? Compounding pharmacies can often reformulate a medication into a cream, liquid, or other forms more suited to your preferences and needs.
Combined Medications: If you're on multiple medications, a compounding pharmacy can sometimes combine them into a single dose, simplifying your regimen and increasing the likelihood of consistent intake.
In essence, compounding pharmacies align the science of medicine with the uniqueness of your body. By opting for compounded medications, you're not just choosing drugs; you're selecting a strategy - a strategy tailored to you, ensuring that your path to better health is as seamless, effective, and personalized as possible.
*Remember, it's crucial to consult with healthcare professionals to ensure compounded medications are the right choice for any individual's specific needs.

Listen, I hear you, we pay oodles of money every single month for our health insurance premiums. For what?!?! I feel the same way about my car insurance- and hate that my insurance won't pay for my tires I need all the time because I live in a harsh winter area! Unfortunately, insurance has not evolved enough to understand the importance of getting to the root of these issues NOW, so we aren't chasing a billion issues later! However, my patients have shared with me that after copays, the inaccurate testing run-around they have gotten, overages, referrals to unnecessary (EXPENSIVE) specialists, using MY testing and my protocols they not only save time but LOADS of money (and sanity).
Contrave is a non-funded prescription medication and therefore can be costly. We suggest patients obtain this through a compounding pharmacy as it is cheaper than standard pharmacies and branded medication, however patients can still expect to pay on average $100 - 250 per month, depending on the dose being used.
The side effects and adverse outcomes. These may include mild effects such as headaches
and dry mouth, vomiting, dizziness, and constipation. Nausea, if experienced, is mostly mild
to moderate in severity and is typically transient and experienced during the dose escalation
phase.
Contrave should NOT be used in patients with a seizure disorder
It's important to note that you should avoid taking Contrave with high fat foods. Examples of high fat foods include cheese and avocado. If you take Contrave and eat high fat foods, the interaction could increase the level of the drug in your body. This may raise your risk of side effects from Contrave.
